In response to Senate Resolution 60 and House Resolution 122, where both the Michigan House and Senate formally recognized June as Pride Month for the first time in state history, we the MPA have written a response letter to our Michigan legislators:
It is with great concern and disappointment that we, the Michigan Pastors Alliance, write this letter to you regarding the Michigan Legislature’s adoption of Resolution 0060 recognizing and affirming the month of June 2021 as LGBTQ Pride Month. We firmly believe that God is true and that the Word of God, the Bible, faithfully reveals the Person and character and desires of Almighty God, our Creator. The scriptures declare that “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” James 4:6 We believe that these kinds of recognitions by our government leaders, while politically expedient in many cases, invite the judgment of God upon our state and our entire Nation.
We believe that God Almighty stands ready on two fronts in these days. The first front is the front of grace. Would our Nation desire grace, the grace of Almighty God, to continue as it has for over 200 years on this soil? If the answer is yes, then let us as a Nation, and our government leaders, resist standing in prideful opposition to the Word of God and let us declare in humility our dependence upon God and our agreement with what God’s Word clearly calls sin and let us call upon our Nation to repent of its waywardness and stubbornness before God and fall into His gracious hands of mercy. The other front upon which we believe God stands ready is the front of judgment. The Word of God declares that when a people have determined and settled to go their own way in opposition to the clear declarations of God’s Holy Word and will, then He must and He will bring judgment.
Therefore, we appeal to you and to the rest of our state leaders to stand for righteousness as it is declared in God’s Word and to reject the narrative that says to do so is equivalent to hate speech. To stand for righteousness will not be popular in this current cultural climate. To stand for righteousness will come with a cost. However, let it be known that to stand with the Lord upon His Word is actually the most loving stance we can take in these days. We believe all people are created equal and in the image of God. All people, therefore, have inherent dignity and deserve to be treated with respect. Under the guise of pride though, our public policy ought not instead endorse Leftist led ideologies that undermine Judeo-Christian viewpoints and conscience, even when it is your favorite politician doing the endorsing. In light of eternity and in light of the consequences of standing in prideful rebellion against God a declaration of Pride Month is what is truly hateful. It is a stance against the eternal God of Glory who will come again and who will render just judgment against all who stand in pride, refusing to humbly repent. It is in actuality a stand against those individuals made in God’s image, yet who refuse to recognize the Creator’s good designs upon human sexuality, and have determined to go their own way. We firmly believe that this declaration passed in both legislative branches of Michigan’s Republican led legislature is a statement of hatred towards the people to whom it seeks to lend support. We appeal to you and to the rest of our state government leaders to lead us in the paths of righteousness for the sake of our families, our state, our Nation, and for the sake of the glory of God Himself. We know there will be a cost, but you do not stand alone. Others who stand for the righteousness of Almighty God stand with you. The Lord Himself lends us the strength to stand firm for His glory.
